Pergola Theatre: all the shows not to be missed
The last appointments of the 2024 season
Last shows of the season at the Teatro della Pergola. From Thursday 2 May, at 9 pm, the Teatro della Pergola will stage the world premiere of the play Pessoa. Since I Have Been Me from texts by Fernando Pessoa, dramaturgically written by Darryl Pinckney and directed by Robert Wilson. Cast: Aline Belibi, Maria de Medeiros, Rodrigo Ferreira, Klaus Martini, Sofia Menci, Gianfranco Poddighe and Janaina Suaudeau.
Robert Wilson enthusiastically welcomed the idea of a play dedicated to Pessoa launched by the Teatro della Pergola in Florence and the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris, and the Pergola has already hosted the first phase of rehearsals for Pessoa in January. Since I have been me, the first moment of choral creation of the play that will make its world premiere in Florence. Wilson, a legendary artist of the international scene, pays tribute to one of the most original figures of 20th century Modernism. Fernando Pessoa's poetry is a quest, a profound questioning of language as existence. Robert Wilson evokes the various atmospheres of Pessoa's works, the fluidity of mood, meditative or comic, rational or anarchic, born of a life shared with such heteronymous personalities as Alexander Search or Bernardo Soares or Vicente Guedes or Alberto Caeiro or Álvaro de Campos or Ricardo Reis. Wilson's freedom in the use of images is the equivalent of these cheerful and severe sceptics of metaphysics.
From 16 to 19 May, on the other hand, La Maria Brasca with Marina Rocco will be on stage. A feminine story drawn in the 1960s with effective social realism that is also an indelible and timeless portrait of a woman capable of fighting and never giving in to 'this beast that is the world'.
