Boost your metabolism with Figurella!

We quite often talk or hear talking about metabolism without knowing so much about it. This article will provide some more knowledge on the theme and also, you will find out how Figurella can help in boosting your metabolism.

What is metabolism?

Metabolism is defined as the collection of chemical reactions that take place inside of the body. These reactions assist in the maintenance of an overall balance of how our cells function even at rest. Metabolic reactions can be divided into 2 main categories; catabolic and anabolic

Catabolic reactions are those that occur by the molecular breakdown of larger substances resulting in the obtaining of energy. An example of this is digestion where food is broken down by enzymes thus releasing energy. On the opposite end of the spectrum, anabolic reactions are those that result in the combination of smaller and simpler molecules to form more complex compounds. Examples include muscle building and protein synthesis from amino acids, bone growth and mineralization from calcium. Both types of reactions aid to satisfy the energy and molecular requirements of the cells in the body respectively.

The speed in which these chemical reactions take place in our body is associated with nutrition and how the cells obtain and utilize energy. We receive energy from the various nutrients in the food we consume. These nutrients play a vital role in the growth and repair of body tissues, the building of muscles and as such, is important for the functioning and operation of  larger organ systems. This ultimately affects our overall health and wellbeing.

Nutrients can be broken down into 2 groups; Macronutrients and Micronutrients

Macronutrients are defined as the nutrients required in larger quantities by the body such as Carbohydrates, Protein and Fats and Micronutrients are those needed in a much smaller quantity such as vitamins and minerals.

How Does Figurella Affect Metabolism?

Thermic Bubble Workout

At Figurella, clients workout in a bubble warmed up at 37°C / 98.6° F. This temperature is optimum for the activation of the enzyme lipase which is responsible for the dissolution of fat. This means that there is less time requirement to ‘warm-up’ prior to working out. It also ensures that your body efficiently breaks down, shrinks and converts any stored adipose tissue whether it be subcutaneous (under the skin) or visceral (in between organs) into energy to be used by muscles and tissues.

Detox in the oxygen bath

Our metabolism needs oxygen to function efficiently. Think about it like a fire, the more oxygen given at a good pace, the greater it burns. Figurella clients receive a 15 minute oxygen bath treatment after their workout. When you exercise, your respiratory rate increases causing a buildup of CO2 as you create an O2 deficit. At this point, there is release of extra toxins from fat cells and adding extra oxygen post workout improves both the lymphatic and blood circulation which is responsible for transporting these wastes out of the body. An increase in the oxygen level can greatly improve the efficiency at which the body functions and can be experienced in as little as one day after one treatment. It also promotes burning more calories than in a usual workout and reduces the cramping effects of lactic acid levels post workout.

A step by step guided Nutrition plan

However, as time progresses the metabolism slows down and as such burns fewer calories. What we eat and the quality of food we consume can help to speed up one’s metabolism. The ‘thermic effect’ is a phenomenon that is defined as the increase in the rate of metabolism after the consumption of food. Foods rich in protein for example have a higher thermic effect compared to carbohydrates and fats because they require more energy to be broken down and absorbed by body cells. Examples of foods rich in protein are eggs, fish, meat, nuts and legumes. At Figurella, we have a designed step-by-step nutrition plan aligned to satisfy the needs of a client. We recommend clean and balanced eating of natural whole foods paired with routine exercise to maximize the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
